A fantastic small chest on cabriole base with folding top in mahogany from the George II period. The rectangular folding top opens to a ratcheted writing/drawing tablet with crossbanded edging on a conforming case with applied bulged apron. The case is fitted with working drawers and is finished on all sides. The apron has shell carved center appliques while tghe cabriole legs are acanthus carved with Queen Anne padded feet. English, circa 1740. A related chest is shown in Ronald Phillips catalog 2007, pg 176, pl 105.
