"Roan Hack" painted by Ben Marshall (1767-1835)
This striking portrait of a royal steed is a fine example of Ben Marshall's work at the height of his talents. Marshall was one of the most accomplished British sporting painters, perhaps second only to the incomparable George Stubbs and was chiefly known for portraits of racehorses and their owners and exhibitor in 1800 at the Royal Academy, notably a Royal patron.
